Today, National Geographic Called...

December 07, 2005

I was at work this evening, doing my normal guard duties over the video systems when I got a phone call. It was National Geographic Magazine of all things. I was pretty hyped that they called, I mean, it’s not every day that National Geographic calls! I figured right away that they wanted to know how I took such stellar photos of random and for the most part unimportant things…

After a short part, and I mean really short part, in the conversation where they threw job offers at me like you wouldn’t believe I had to inform them that I wasn’t going to be available to take any assignments at this point.

That’s of course when the woman on the other end laughed at me and then explained that the real reason she was calling was to thank the department for our continual support of their magazine. It was then that I could swear she said “I so got you!”

She was going to send me a free something or other if I would just verify the address. I think she was sorry for pretending to have a job offer for me and then getting my hopes up. I think the sniffling noise I was making sealed the deal. I then told her that I was actually working in the technology department and she said “oh, I’m sorry to bother you.”

Now is when I should tell you I added quite a few details to that conversation… Bet you’ll never guess which ones… Yeah, basically she was just doing the telemarketing thing with a twist. The twist being the free whatever it was. However, I can still say that National Geographic called me at work… And how many people can say that honestly?

Yeah, that’s what I thought…

So, maybe some day I’ll work for National Geographic but until then, I’ll just keep taking pictures of random and for the most part unimportant things.
